I am returning to University in October to complete my Product & Furniture Design Degree after a full placement year. I would like to get a head start on my dissertation during the summer but before i do, i would love to hear some opinions about interesting design topics. A lot of my contemporaries are talking about sustainable design but i feel the subject is getting a little mundane and overdone by now.
I am thinking of basing mine on materials technologies. Maybe something to do with the relationships of innovation and new materials? innovation Vs materials? Nano technology?
Any ideas or suggestions, alternative ideas or interesting links would be greatly appreciated.

At Hanover Messe this year, I stopped by a really interesting stand with samples of all sorts of weird and wonderful materials created to solve problems. Their website is www.materialconnexion.com. Might be worth a look for some inspiration.
